Salt
1 year and up
⚡ Quick answer
Salt is NOT ADDED to baby food before age 1 — the kidneys cannot process excess sodium; between ages 1-3 the daily requirement is also very low, so the family meal should be cooked with little salt and the baby's portion set aside early.
How to serve it by age?
6-12 months
None is added. Baby already gets sodium from foods that naturally contain salt, such as cheese and store-bought bread.
12+ months
Low-salt small portions from the family meal; never let the habit of adding salt at the table begin.
📌 Watch out for these
- Pickles, brine, processed meat, instant soup, and chips are high sources of salt — not suitable for babies/young children.
