Peanut Butter (Peanut)
6 months and up
⚡ Quick answer
Current approach: DELAYING peanut does not prevent allergy — from 6 months, unsweetened butter spread very thinly/diluted can be tried; in babies with eczema, consult a doctor first.
How to serve it by age?
Half a teaspoon of unsweetened, unsalted butter, diluted with breast milk/water and mixed into puree.
A THIN layer can be spread on bread/banana.
Continuing a regular small amount maintains tolerance.
⚠️ Allergen information
One of the most serious allergens. The first trial must be at home, with a small amount, early in the day; if breathing difficulty, widespread hives, or vomiting occur, call emergency services. In babies with moderate-to-severe eczema or egg allergy, the pediatrician should determine the introduction plan.
🫁 Choking risk and safe serving
Whole peanuts are FORBIDDEN until age 4-5; butter can also stick to the palate in a lump — always thin it out.
📌 Watch out for these
- Whole peanuts and large lumps of butter are a definite choking risk.
- If there is a history of reaction, the trial is done only under a doctor's supervision.
