A Warm Chicken Broth Soup for New Mothers — A Gentle, Nourishing Meal for Postpartum Recovery
A clear soup made with bone-in chicken, carrots and rice for mothers looking for a warm, light and satisfying meal during the postpartum and breastfeeding period. A gentle one-pot recipe that supports protein and fluid intake.
Ingredients
- 400 g Bone-in chicken (thigh or breast)
- 2 pieces Carrot
- 1 piece Celery stalk
- 1 piece Onion
- 3 tablespoons Rice
- 1 tablespoon Olive oil
- a few sprigs Fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon Salt (measured)
- 1 pinch Black pepper
- half piece Lemon
- 1.5 liters Water
Directions
- 1
Rinse the bone-in chicken, place it in a pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, skimming off any foam that rises to the surface.
- 2
Add the halved onion, roughly chopped carrots and celery stalk. Lower the heat and simmer gently for about 35–40 minutes, until the chicken is very tender.
- 3
Remove the chicken and let it cool slightly; pull the meat from the bones and shred it. Strain the broth through a fine sieve to keep it clear.
- 4
Add the rinsed rice to the strained hot broth and cook for 12–15 minutes, until the rice is soft.
- 5
Return the shredded chicken to the soup; season with measured salt and a pinch of black pepper, then simmer for a few more minutes.
- 6
Drizzle in the olive oil just before taking the pot off the heat. Serve sprinkled with finely chopped parsley and a squeeze of lemon if you like.
🌱 Why is it nourishing?
Made with bone-in chicken, this clear soup offers easy-to-digest protein and warm fluids, which may help support daily fluid intake during the postpartum period. Vegetables such as carrot and parsley add vitamin A and a range of minerals, while the rice makes the meal gently filling. With its light character, it is a balanced option that is easy to enjoy on tiring days.
