Baby cry analysis?

Baby cry analysis is basically trying to understand your baby's possible needs by interpreting the way your baby cries, its duration, and accompanying signs. While not an exact science, experienced parents and caregivers often notice certain patterns:

The most common types of crying are:

• Hunger cry: Usually starts with rhythmic, rising and falling tones, persistent. Baby turns head, makes sucking movements. Gradually intensifies.
• Discomfort/diaper cry: More choppy, whimpering type, accompanied by restless squirming. Usually stops after diaper change.
• Tiredness cry: Whiny start, accompanied by yawning. Baby rubs eyes, seems uncomfortable. Responds to calming routine.
• Gas/colic cry: Starts suddenly, sharp and high-pitched sound. Baby pulls legs to belly, clenches fists. Feels better after passing gas.
• Overstimulation cry: Starts with whimpering, stops when removed from environment. Baby avoids eye contact, turns head away when held.
• Illness/discomfort cry: Generally softer tone, can sound finer, sharp and painful. Accompanied by other signs like fever, poor appetite, drowsiness.

Practical tip: When baby cries, check three basic needs in order—hunger (when was last feeding), wet/dirty diaper, tiredness (how long baby has been awake). Usually it's one of these three.

It's not a clinical technique; the "cry analysis" features in mobile apps have not yet been scientifically validated as diagnostic tools and cannot replace medical evaluation. Parental instinct and basic need checking is usually the most reliable method.
