Red Lentil and Potato Purée — A Soft, Nourishing Meal for 6+ Months
A silky purée that brings together red lentils, potato and carrot. Easy to prepare, filling and naturally sweet, it is a lovely meal for babies starting solids from 6 months.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons Red lentils (rinsed)
- 1 small Potato (peeled, small cubes)
- 1/2 piece Carrot (peeled, thin slices)
- 1 teaspoon Olive oil
- to consistency Boiled lukewarm water (or breast milk / formula)
Directions
- 1
Rinse the red lentils well in a sieve until the water runs clear.
- 2
Chop the potato and carrot into small pieces so they cook faster and softer.
- 3
Place everything in a pot, add enough water to cover, and simmer over low heat until easily mashed with a fork (about 18-20 minutes).
- 4
Remove from the heat and let cool slightly; then add the olive oil and mash or blend until smooth.
- 5
If the texture is too thick for you, loosen it with boiled lukewarm water, breast milk or formula to the softness your baby enjoys.
- 6
Check that it is lukewarm on your wrist before serving; offer it fresh, in a portion to be finished in one sitting.
🌱 Why is it nourishing?
Red lentils provide plant protein and iron, while potato adds a soft texture and energy. Carrot brings natural sweetness and beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A, to brighten the meal. A little olive oil adds a small amount of healthy fat that can help keep this first purée balanced.
