Date & Walnut Energy Bites for Mothers — Iron-Friendly and Filling
No-bake bites made with dates, walnuts and oats — a practical snack for the postpartum and breastfeeding period. Naturally sweet and rich in iron and energy for a busy new mother.
⚠️ Contains allergens: nuts, sesame, gluten
Ingredients
- 12 pieces Pitted dates
- 1 cup Walnut halves
- 0.5 cup Rolled oats
- 2 tablespoons Tahini
- 6 pieces Dried apricots (chopped)
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon Unsweetened cocoa (optional)
- 1 pinch Salt
- 2 tablespoons Desiccated coconut (for coating)
Directions
- 1
If the dates are firm, soak them in warm water for 10 minutes and drain, so the mixture binds more easily.
- 2
Pulse the walnuts and rolled oats in a food processor a few times until they reach a coarse, sandy texture.
- 3
Add the dates, dried apricots, tahini, cinnamon, cocoa and a pinch of salt, and blend until a sticky dough forms.
- 4
If the mixture crumbles, add a teaspoon of water; if it is too soft, add a little more oats to adjust the texture.
- 5
With lightly dampened hands, roll the dough into walnut-sized balls.
- 6
Roll the balls in desiccated coconut to coat.
- 7
Chill for 30 minutes until firm, then serve; they keep in an airtight container for 4–5 days.
🌱 Why is it nourishing?
Dates and dried apricots are dried fruits notable for iron and potassium alongside their natural sweetness, and they can help make a restoring snack on busy days. Walnuts and tahini add healthy fats and plant protein, while oats bring fibre and texture. This blend can be a practical part of varied, balanced eating during the postpartum and breastfeeding period.
