Baby eczema shampoo?

Before switching to a special shampoo for eczema, the most important thing to know is: baby eczema is mostly caused by the skin's barrier weakness. Shampoo isn't the main factor; the cleaning method and post-cleansing care are the primary determinants.

General rule: Baby shampoo should already be gentle. For eczema, additionally choose a fragrance-free, soap-free, sulfate-free product. Most "eczema shampoo" labeled products on the market aren't actually different from regular baby shampoo; what matters is that the cleansing agents (sulfates) are minimal.

Practical recommendation:

• Don't shampoo more than once or twice a week (rinsing with water may be sufficient).
• Massage the shampoo into the scalp, let the lather sit for only 1-2 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
• Right after bathing, apply moisturizer (thick eczema cream) directly; shampoo alone doesn't provide treatment.

When should you consult your pediatrician/pediatric dermatologist?

• If there's thick yellow crusting or wet crusting on the scalp (this may be seborrheic dermatitis, which is different from eczema).
• If there's no improvement in 2 weeks despite changing shampoo.
• If itching affects the baby's sleep or daily activities.

In short: there's no miracle eczema shampoo. The right product: simple, fragrance-free, suitable for baby skin as a cleanser. The real treatment is moisturizing after bathing. Creating a moisturizing routine with your pediatrician is the most effective approach.
