Non-crying newborn?

A newborn who doesn't cry immediately after birth is a concerning situation. Normally, a baby should cry or make strong sounds right after birth to inflate her lungs and take that first breath.

When a newborn isn't crying, it's usually related to these situations:

Clinical protocol: Every newborn in the delivery room receives an APGAR score (at 1 and 5 minutes). Strong crying/breathing is the most important part of this score. Scores below 7 require intervention.
