9-month-old baby fell from bed?

A 9-month-old baby falling from bed is a terrifying moment for parents. First and foremost, staying calm is the most important thing.

At this age, babies are starting to move around, so falls are common. It's important to know what to do in the moments after a fall:

First minutes after the fall:

• Pick your baby up gently; observe for a few seconds first
• Check consciousness: is she crying, making eye contact?
• If there's bleeding, apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth
• For bruising or swelling, you can apply a cold compress (don't put ice directly on skin, wrap it in cloth first)

Emergency situations requiring immediate help (dial 112):

• Loss of consciousness, confusion, or sleepiness
• Vomiting (especially more than twice)
• Seizures/convulsions
• Unequal pupils
• Not crying immediately after the fall
• Abnormal posture or limited movement in arm or leg

Observation period:

You should watch your baby closely for 24 hours after the fall. If there are no concerning signs, things are usually fine, but checking with your pediatrician to be sure is always the right move.

Prevention:

At this stage, babies can turn suddenly, so they should never be left alone on a bed. If your bed doesn't have safe sides, consider using a low bed (mattress on floor) close to the ground. Always keep your eyes on your baby when on the bed — she can roll over in seconds.
