6-month-old baby cough and wheezing?

Cough and wheezing in a 6-month-old baby should be evaluated carefully. Wheezing is a whistling sound heard during breathing and usually indicates narrowing of the lower airways. At this age, one of the most likely causes is respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which causes bronchiolitis. Bronchiolitis shows itself with wheezing and cough, especially in babies 6 months and under. If your baby's nostrils flare when breathing, has rib retractions (ribs pulling inward), can't feed, has blue lips, or has constant coughing, this requires emergency medical care. If there's a fever and the baby is older than 3 months, even then, the baby's overall condition should be closely monitored and seen by a pediatrician as soon as possible. At this age, never use cough syrup, herbal tea, or a vaporizer without the doctor's approval. Treatment is directed at the cause and planned by the doctor; the most important thing you can do at home is keep the baby upright and clean their nose with saline.
