How does a 2-year-old talk?

A child around 2 years old typically speaks like this:

Vocabulary: Uses an average of 50–200 words. He says everyday words he hears often: "mommy," "daddy," "water," "ball," "come."

Two-word sentences: "Mommy come," "throw ball," "want milk"—combining two words into short simple sentences. This is a big language milestone.

Understanding: About half of what he says is understood by people close to him. Strangers may understand less—that's normal.

Questions and requests: He may ask "what's this?" and use "more" to ask for something to happen again.

Imitation: He tries to repeat new words he hears right away; sometimes correct, sometimes in his own unique way.
