Why doesn't a 2-year-old want to take a bath?

Bath refusal in 2-year-olds is a common stage and is usually a developmental step, not defiance. Around this age, your child seeks control, and bathing's triggers—the wetness, temperature changes, or pausing playtime—can upset them.

The most common solution: turn the bath into a game. Bubbles coming out of water, toys being dropped into water, or "let's bathe the baby, now you bathe too" mimicking games work well. Another effective approach: offer choices — "Bath now or in 5 minutes?" gives your child a sense of control. Paying attention to bath water temperature (37°C is ideal) and making sure it's not too cold or too hot also matters.
