Does a 2-Month-Old Baby's Eye Color Change?

Eye color change is possible in a 2-month-old baby and is quite common. Babies are typically born with a blue-gray eye color; this color occurs because melanin pigmentation in the iris has not yet fully matured. As the months progress, melanin production increases and eye color may darken (amber, green, brown) or remain the same. By the 2nd month, this process continues and the true color usually becomes apparent around 6–12 months. Sometimes the change is noticed within weeks, sometimes it takes months. Slight darkening or tone changes in eye color are normal; sudden color change or marked asymmetry between the two eyes should be discussed with a pediatrician—rarely, this can be a sign of another condition.
