Calpol (acetaminophen) is used to lower fever and ease pain. For a 1-year-old, the dose is calculated based on weight. To know the right dose, you need to read the package insert and definitely ask your pediatrician. Never figure out the dose by guessing weight or following what another parent told you.

When is it generally used: If fever is 38.5°C or higher and your baby is uncomfortable, for teething pain if it's very bothersome, after vaccinations if there's fever or soreness — but always on doctor's recommendation. Not every fever needs medicine right away.
