1-month-old baby gets an eyelash in their eye?

It's quite common for an eyelash to get into a 1-month-old's eye. Since babies' eyelashes are still fine and soft at this age, this usually doesn't cause serious problems and often comes out naturally with tears.

You may notice the baby experiencing minor discomfort, slight tearing, or wanting to rub their eye. Here's what you should do:

• First, don't panic; babies sense this and become fussy.
• After washing your hands thoroughly, if the eyelash is visible on the white part of the eye, you can gently try to remove it with the corner of a clean cloth or sterile gauze.
• If the eyelash has slipped under the upper eyelid, trust the baby's natural tear flow, or you can use a few drops of sterile artificial tears (if recommended by the pediatrician) to help flush it out.
• Do not rub — this could scratch the cornea.

When to see a doctor:

• Eye redness, swelling, yellow-green discharge (signs of infection)
• If the baby keeps the eye closed continuously or shows excessive light sensitivity
• If the eyelash doesn't come out on its own within 2-3 hours or discomfort increases
