Plum & Apple Purée – Spring's First Sweet Spoonful

Made with just two ingredients — fresh seasonal plums and apple — this simple purée supports your baby's digestion while being naturally sweet, smooth, and completely wholesome.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1

    1) Wash the apple and plums thoroughly under running water. Remove the pits from the plums, then peel and core the apple and cut it into small cubes.

  2. 2

    2) Place both fruits in a small saucepan and add just enough water to cover them. Cook over low heat for 8–10 minutes, until the fruit pieces are soft enough to mash easily with your finger.

  3. 3

    3) Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow to cool. Set the cooking liquid aside — you may need it to adjust the consistency.

  4. 4

    4) Blend the cooled fruit using a blender or hand blender until completely smooth. If the purée is too thick, stir in a little of the reserved cooking liquid to reach your desired consistency.

  5. 5

    5) For an extra-smooth finish, press the purée through a fine sieve to remove any remaining fibrous bits. This step is especially recommended for babies who are just starting solids.

  6. 6

    6) Serve at body temperature (lukewarm). Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. ⚠️ Note: Introduce new foods one at a time with a 3-day gap in between, and watch for any signs of allergy or intolerance.

🌱 Why is it nourishing?

Plums contain natural sorbitol, which helps regulate your baby's digestive system and can ease constipation. Apple is rich in pectin fibre, which nourishes gut flora and supports gentle, comfortable digestion. Both fruits are a source of vitamin C, which boosts the absorption of plant-based iron and supports cognitive development. Natural fructose provides energy without any need for added sugar, while helping your baby develop a healthy palate. The smooth, soft texture of this purée also supports oral motor development in babies who are just learning to eat from a spoon.
