First Pear Purée — A Soft, Naturally Sweet Fruit Introduction for 6+ Months
A gentle first fruit purée where ripe pear is mashed until smooth and shines with its own natural sweetness. Prepared from 6 months with no sweetener or extras; its creamy texture and mild flavour make it an easy-to-digest recipe for the start of solids.
Ingredients
- 1 small piece Ripe pear (peeled, cored and chopped into small pieces)
- 2-3 tablespoons Breast milk, prepared formula or drinking water (to adjust consistency)
Directions
- 1
Wash your hands and the bowl and spoons you will use thoroughly. Rinse the pear under running water, peel it, remove the core and chop it into small pieces.
- 2
Place the pieces in a steaming basket or a pan with a little water; over low heat, steam for 8-10 minutes until soft enough to mash easily with a fork.
- 3
Drain the pear; set aside some of the steaming water or the breast milk/formula in a separate bowl to adjust the consistency.
- 4
Transfer the softened pear to a bowl and mash with a fork or blender until you have a smooth purée.
- 5
Add the reserved liquid little by little to reach a soft, flowing consistency your baby can swallow easily.
- 6
Do not add any sweetener or extras; the pear's own natural sweetness is enough.
- 7
Test the purée on the back of your hand to make sure it is lukewarm or at room temperature; your baby should always eat seated and under supervision.
🌱 Why is it nourishing?
Pear is rich in fibre, naturally sweet and generally easy to digest; with its soft texture it can give your baby room to meet new flavours gently during the move to solids. Mashed until smooth, it offers a creamy consistency and can support getting used to spoon-feeding. Because it is prepared with its own natural sweetness, no added sweetener is needed. With its light, gentle nature it is a well-loved choice among first fruit purées.
