Newborn Circumcision?

Circumcision (kuyumcu) in the newborn period (first 28 days) is not medically recommended. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and general pediatric practice in Turkey state that circumcision can be done as early as 2-6 weeks old, when the baby is stable, outside the newborn intensive care setting. Circumcisions done within the first 28 days carry higher risks of anesthesia complications, bleeding, and infection. If your baby is premature, low birth weight, has jaundice, or has birth defects (heart or kidney issues), circumcision should definitely be postponed. In any case, examination and approval by the surgeon performing it is required; religious calendar alone shouldn't decide, but rather your baby's physiological readiness. Discussing the religious aspects of circumcision with a religious scholar is appropriate.
