Baby play basket?

A baby play basket is a concept of age-appropriate toys and objects presented in a basket and periodically rotated to support baby's development and curiosity. The basic idea is to provide a focused and deeper play experience with limited, rotating toys rather than overwhelming baby with too many stimuli at once.

Toys in the basket are selected according to baby's developmental stage. For example, a 3–6 month old benefits from tactile items (soft teethers, different textured fabrics), auditory toys (soft sound-making toys, crinkly books), visual items (high-contrast cards), and grasping objects (rattles, teething rings). From 6–12 months, cause-and-effect toys (boxes with opening lids, nesting cups), fine motor toys (drop-and-pull toys), and objects that prepare for pretend play (wooden spoon, empty cardboard box) can be added.

When creating a basket, keep these in mind: limit toy count to 4–5 pieces, rotate every one to two weeks, ensure every toy is safe (no small parts, non-toxic materials) and sturdy. The goal is to keep baby's interest fresh, as if encountering something "new" each time, making play easier and more engaging.

General pediatric guidance recognizes that overstimulation can lead to attention difficulties and fatigue in babies; basket rotation is considered a beneficial approach from this perspective.
