Baby anti-diarrheal medicine?

Anti-diarrheal medicines are never recommended for babies. Diarrhea is your body's way of clearing an infection; stopping it traps the problem inside. What really matters is preventing fluid loss.

Here's how to manage baby diarrhea:

• Keep breastfeeding or bottle-feeding frequently and in small amounts
• If your baby is 6+ months and on solids, offer rice cereal, banana, boiled potato purée—foods that bind
• Don't give probiotic drops without doctor approval
• Never use adult anti-diarrheal medicines, herbal 'cures', lemon water, sugary water, salty buttermilk, or home remedies

See a doctor if:

• 6+ wet diapers in 24 hours
• No wet diaper for 8+ hours (dehydration)
• Bloody or mucusy stool
• Fever
• Dry mouth, no tears, lethargy

Safest: use an oral rehydration solution (ORS) from the pharmacy, with doctor guidance.
