My baby's stool is granular but also watery: what does that mean?

This appearance usually means the digestive system didn't fully process a food, or there's an imbalance in bowel movement. The granular part is usually undigested milk curds or fiber bits—depending on how fast food moves through his bowel. The watery part means water wasn't fully absorbed in one part of the bowel.

If your baby looks well, eats well, and has no fever or discomfort, this temporary state is likely linked to teething, a new solid food, or mild viral infection. But if stool suddenly increases in amount, turns dark green/slimy, or if your baby seems weak, feverish, or you see blood in stool—talk to your pediatrician.
