My 12-month-old only nurses at night—will my milk supply dry up?

In a 12-month-old nursing only at night, your milk supply won't completely disappear. Your body makes milk based on supply and demand: as long as your baby is nursing regularly at night, your body keeps making milk during those hours. But if there's no pumping or nursing during the day for long stretches, your total milk volume may gradually decrease—though this usually happens slowly, not suddenly. If nighttime nursing is meeting your baby's needs (he's full and sleeps peacefully), don't expect your milk to stop. Breast milk at 12 months is still nutritious, but your baby's main daytime nutrition should come from solid foods and possibly toddler formula.
