Can a 7-month-old baby sit in a high chair?

7-month-old babies can generally start sitting in a high chair. The most important criteria for this is that the baby can keep their head upright and balanced with minimal or no support, and can sit for a while without wobbling in an upright position. In typical development, at the beginning of the 7th month some babies still need support, while toward the end of the 7th month most babies can sit unsupported for short periods. For safety, the high chair must always be secured with a five-point safety belt and the chair must be sturdy against tipping. If your baby is not yet ready for unsupported sitting, you can continue to use the newborn support insert in the chair for a while longer.
