2-month-old baby reflux medication?

Reflux medication in a 2-month-old can only be started after evaluation by a pediatrician. At this age, frequent spitting up is often physiological reflux, because the baby's stomach valve (lower esophageal sphincter) hasn't matured yet and stomach contents easily come back up. True gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) requires the baby to show discomfort, feeding refusal, poor weight gain, arching backward, and other symptoms.

If a pediatrician makes that diagnosis, the prescribed medication is usually an acid blocker like ranitidine or omeprazole. Never use any medication without doctor recommendation. The common clinical approach is to first try positional and feeding measures: holding the baby upright after feeding, feeding in smaller, more frequent amounts, and good burping technique. Medication only comes in when these measures don't work and diagnosis is clear. In short: reflux medication isn't started randomly; first comes evaluation, then prescription if needed.
