Teething in 10-month-olds — what to expect

Tooth eruption is quite normal and expected in 10-month-olds. Usually the first teeth appear between 6–9 months; by 10 months some babies have a few teeth, while others have none yet — both are normal.

Signs: Red, swollen gums, increased drooling, chewing on fingers or objects, fussiness, slight sleep disruption, sometimes reduced appetite. About fever: teething can cause a very mild temperature increase below 38°C, but fever at 38°C or higher is NOT from teething — there's another infection.

What helps: Teething rings made for babies (cooled in the fridge, never frozen solid), a clean, cold cloth, or age-appropriate hard foods to chew (like a large raw carrot under supervision). Gum massage with a clean finger also helps.

See a doctor if: Fever is 38°C or higher, severe drooling or swallowing trouble, the baby won't eat at all or is in extreme pain — these aren't teething signs and need evaluation. Also, if no teeth appear by 12 months, a check-up is wise.
