A 1-month-old having trouble falling asleep is quite common, especially at this age. Newborn sleep cycles haven't matured yet; they don't distinguish between day and night and wake frequently.

• Discomfort: Gas pains, wet diapers, too-hot or too-cold environment can make falling asleep difficult.

• Watch for your baby's sleep cues (yawning, rubbing eyes, fussiness) and prepare for sleep immediately.
• Keep the environment dim and quiet; swaddling (if baby is comfortable) can provide a sense of security.
• White noise (like a hair dryer sound) can calm some babies.
• Connecting sleep to a routine (gentle massage, calm book, skin-to-skin contact) helps over time.

When to consult a doctor:

• Baby is constantly crying and won't settle at all,
• Weight gain is insufficient,
• Baby is struggling to breathe or shows bluish color,
• Temperature is 38°C or higher (in a 1-month-old this is urgent — call 112 immediately).
