Steamed Zucchini Purée — A Light, Easy-to-Digest Summer Recipe for 7+ Months
Steamed until tender and blended smooth, zucchini brings a light, watery and easy-to-digest option to your baby's summer table from 7 months. It is made with the gentle taste of zucchini alone, with no extra ingredients added.
Ingredients
- 1 piece fresh young zucchini (washed, peeled)
- 2 tablespoon boiled and cooled drinking water (for consistency)
- extra-virgin olive oil (optional, a few drops)
Directions
- 1
Wash the zucchini well; peel it and cut it into small rounds or cubes.
- 2
Steam the zucchini pieces for 7-9 minutes, until soft enough to mash easily with a fork.
- 3
Transfer the softened zucchini to a bowl and mash thoroughly with a fork, or blend until completely smooth.
- 4
If you like, stir in a few drops of extra-virgin olive oil; if needed, add a little boiled and cooled water at a time to reach the consistency you want.
- 5
Check the purée and make sure no large fibres or pieces remain, so spoon-feeding is easy.
- 6
Serve warm, close to body temperature. Remember to introduce a new vegetable on its own with 3 days between each new food.
🌱 Why is it nourishing?
Zucchini is a light, gentle summer vegetable with a high water content; it provides vitamin C, potassium and a small amount of soluble fibre. The fibre it contains can gently support digestion in babies, while its high water content also helps with fluid intake on hot summer days. Steamed and blended smooth, it creates a silky, easy-to-swallow texture for babies moving on to spoon-feeding. Introduced on its own, it lets your baby meet a new taste and texture gently.
Maiyko's note
At Maiyko, we care about simplicity and natural ingredients in your baby's first tastes; where you can, choose fresh, young and ideally organic zucchini, and if the purée feels thick, thin it with a little warm water. Choosing GOTS-certified organic cotton for the feeding bibs that touch sensitive skin is part of that same care.
