Soft Baked Sweet Potato Fingers — A Gentle Hand-Held Snack for 2-Year-Olds
Made with a single ingredient — sweet potato — these baked fingers are a soft, hand-held snack for little ones aged 2 and up. They contain no added sugar or salt; just a little olive oil, served in pieces small fingers can grip easily.
Ingredients
- 1 piece Sweet potato (medium, washed and peeled)
- 1 tablespoon Extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 pinch Cinnamon (optional, just a little)
Directions
- 1
Heat the oven to 200°C and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- 2
Peel the sweet potato and cut it into finger-shaped sticks about 1 cm thick, a size little hands can grip comfortably.
- 3
Toss the sticks gently with olive oil in a bowl; if you like, add a tiny pinch of cinnamon.
- 4
Arrange the sticks in a single layer on the tray so they do not touch.
- 5
Bake for 20-25 minutes, until soft enough to mash easily with a fork and lightly golden at the edges.
- 6
Let them cool well before serving and make sure the temperature will not burn your little one's mouth.
- 7
Always have your child eat seated and under your supervision; offer the soft fingers as pieces they can hold themselves.
🌱 Why is it nourishing?
Sweet potato is a naturally sweet root vegetable rich in beta-carotene (a precursor to vitamin A), fibre and vitamin C, and can add colour to your little one's plate. Thanks to its natural sweetness there is no need for added sugar, and its soft texture suits children aged 2. Hand-held sticks can gently support self-feeding and hand-eye coordination.
Maiyko's note
At Maiyko we value simplicity and natural ingredients in little ones' snacks; if you can, choose a fresh, firm sweet potato and cut the fingers to a size tiny hands can grasp easily. This kitchen care is part of the same gentleness with which we choose GOTS-certified organic cotton for the aprons that touch their skin.
