Pumpkin Purée — A Silky-Soft Sweet Start for 6+ Months
With its natural sweetness and silky texture, pumpkin is one of the best-loved first tastes for babies starting solids. This steamed and blended recipe is prepared for babies aged 6 months and over.
Ingredients
- 200 g pumpkin
- 2-3 tablespoons boiled, cooled water
- 2-3 drops cold-pressed olive oil (optional)
Directions
- 1
Wash the pumpkin, peel it, remove the seeds and cut it into small cubes.
- 2
Steam the cubes for 15-20 minutes, until soft enough to mash easily with a fork.
- 3
Blend the cooked pumpkin or press it through a fine sieve until completely smooth.
- 4
Adjust the consistency with boiled, cooled water; a slightly runnier purée makes swallowing easier in the first tries.
- 5
If you like, stir in a few drops of cold-pressed olive oil.
- 6
Serve at room temperature with a small baby spoon; store leftovers in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
🌱 Why is it nourishing?
Pumpkin is rich in beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A, and may support the development of your baby's eyes and immune system. Its fibre can gently aid digestion. Thanks to its natural sweetness and silky texture, it is one of the most easily accepted first tastes when starting solids.
