Pea Purée — A Gentle First Green Recipe for 7+ Months
Sweet, light and iron-friendly: a silky purée from organic peas for babies continuing solids from 7 months onward. Salt-free and sugar-free, with breast milk to adjust the texture.
⚠️ Contains allergens: none
Ingredients
- 1 cup organic fresh or frozen peas
- half cup filtered drinking water
- 2-3 tablespoons breast milk or formula (for texture)
Directions
- 1
Rinse the peas thoroughly under running water; if frozen, place them in a small bowl.
- 2
In a small saucepan, simmer the peas in half a cup of water over medium heat for about 6-7 minutes, until very tender.
- 3
Drain through a sieve, reserving a spoonful or two of the cooking water.
- 4
Blend or mash the peas with a fork until smooth enough for your baby.
- 5
Loosen with breast milk, formula, or the reserved cooking water until you reach a gentle, spoonable consistency; do not add salt or sugar.
- 6
Make sure the serving temperature is lukewarm (test a drop on your wrist) and offer with a small soft spoon.
🌱 Why is it nourishing?
Even in small portions, peas can offer plant-based protein and fibre, supporting a balanced meal during the introduction of solids. Their vitamin C, vitamin K and iron content may help meet a growing baby's daily needs. The silky texture can be a gentle introduction for babies discovering new green flavours. Because we add no salt or sugar, it stays a simple and safe option.
