Mini Cheese Pastry — A Soft, Easy Snack for 2-Year-Olds
A soft, baked mini pastry for your baby, made with low-salt white cheese and parsley. Sized for little fingers, it's a handy mid-morning snack or a friendly companion to breakfast.
⚠️ Contains allergens: milk, gluten, egg
Ingredients
- 3 sheets thin yufka (filo) sheets
- 200 g low-salt white cheese (pre-soaked in water)
- 2 tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley
- 2 pcs eggs
- 150 ml whole milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional, on top)
Directions
- 1
Soak the white cheese in lukewarm water for 15-20 minutes to reduce its saltiness, then drain and mash thoroughly with a fork into small grains.
- 2
Add the fresh parsley to the mashed cheese and gently mix to form the filling.
- 3
In a separate bowl, whisk 1 egg, half of the milk (75 ml) and the melted butter to make the sauce.
- 4
Cut the yufka sheets into two long strips. Spread a thin line of the cheese filling along the bottom edge of each strip and roll tightly into a log.
- 5
Cut each log into small 3-4 cm pieces that your baby can easily hold; arrange them on a parchment-lined tray with spacing.
- 6
Whisk the remaining egg with the remaining milk (75 ml) and brush the mixture over the slices; sprinkle a little sesame on top if you like.
- 7
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20-25 minutes, until the tops are light golden.
- 8
Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes; serve warm and soft to your baby on a small plate.
🌱 Why is it nourishing?
White cheese provides calcium for bone and dental health together with protein needed during growth years. The egg-and-milk wash keeps the pastry tender, creating a gentle texture small teeth can chew comfortably. Parsley adds a touch of iron and vitamin C, while soaking the cheese keeps the salt content deliberately low. Baking rather than frying lets you prepare a nourishing snack with less fat.
Maiyko's note
In the Maiyko kitchen we think about small steps with great care; cutting the pieces to fit your baby's fingers makes mealtime both joyful and safer.
