Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1

Wash your hands and the bowl and spoons you will use. Rinse the zucchini under running water, peel it, and cut it into small pieces.

  2. 2

Place the zucchini pieces in a steamer basket or in a pot with a little water; steam over low heat for 10-12 minutes, until easily mashed with a fork.

  3. 3

Drain the cooked zucchini; set aside some of the steaming water to adjust the consistency.

  4. 4

Transfer the zucchini to a bowl and mash with a fork or blender until you have a smooth purée; add a little of the reserved steaming water if needed for a soft, flowing consistency.

  5. 5

If you like, stir in a few drops of extra-virgin olive oil; do not add any sweetener or seasoning.

  6. 6

Bring the purée to a lukewarm temperature you can test on the back of your hand, and serve it fresh while your baby is seated and under your supervision.

🌱 Why is it nourishing?

Zucchini is a light, water-rich, easy-to-digest vegetable, which can make it a gentle choice for babies newly starting solids. When blended until smooth it offers a soft texture and can support your baby in getting to know new vegetable flavors. Its simple preparation gives room to discover the natural taste of the vegetable. A few drops of olive oil may help with the intake of fat-soluble nutrients.
