First Pea Purée — A Soft, Naturally Sweet Green Introduction for 6+ Months
A velvety purée of fresh or frozen green peas, cooked until soft and passed through a fine sieve. From 6 months, its gentle natural sweetness and smooth texture make a soft introduction to green vegetables.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (about 75 g) Fresh or frozen green peas
- 2-3 tablespoons (to adjust consistency) Drinking water or vegetable cooking water
- a few drops Extra virgin olive oil (optional)
Directions
- 1
Wash your hands and the bowl, spoon and pot you will use. Rinse the peas in a strainer.
- 2
In a small pot, cover the peas with just enough water and simmer or steam for 8-10 minutes until soft.
- 3
Drain the cooked peas, reserving a little of the cooking water to adjust the consistency.
- 4
Blend the peas or mash them well with a fork, then pass them through a fine sieve to remove the skins and reach a smooth consistency.
- 5
If the purée is thick, thin it little by little with the reserved cooking water, breast milk or formula until soft enough for your baby to swallow easily. You may stir in a few drops of extra virgin olive oil if you like.
- 6
Let the purée cool to lukewarm and serve it fresh, without letting it sit.
🌱 Why is it nourishing?
With their plant protein, iron, fiber and folate, peas are a nourishing green vegetable option during the complementary feeding period. Their naturally mild sweetness can help your baby get gently acquainted with green vegetables. Passed through a fine sieve, their velvety texture sits nicely on the spoon and is easy to swallow. With its simple content, it is suitable for single-ingredient introduction.
Maiyko's note
At Maiyko, we value simple and natural steps in complementary feeding. Offer the pea purée with only its own natural taste, without adding any sweetener or spices, and always prepare it fresh. When introducing a new food for the first time, observing your baby for a few days is a good habit.
