Apple Purée — A Naturally Sweet, Silky-Soft First Recipe for 6+ Months
With its natural sweetness and gentle texture, apple is one of the best-loved first tastes for babies starting solids. This steamed and smoothly blended recipe is prepared for babies aged 6 months and over.
Ingredients
- 1 medium apple
- 2-3 tablespoons boiled, cooled water
Directions
- 1
Wash the apple, peel it, remove the core and cut it into small cubes.
- 2
Steam the cubes for 10-12 minutes, until soft enough to mash easily with a fork.
- 3
Blend the cooked apple or press it through a fine sieve until completely smooth.
- 4
Adjust the consistency with boiled, cooled water; a slightly runnier purée makes swallowing easier in the first tries.
- 5
Serve at room temperature with a small baby spoon.
- 6
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 24 hours; bring back to room temperature before serving again.
🌱 Why is it nourishing?
Apple is a source of vitamin C and gentle fibre; the pectin it contains may softly support your baby's digestion. Thanks to its natural sweetness, it is one of the most easily accepted first tastes when starting solids. Steaming both softens the texture and preserves its natural flavour.
Maiyko's note
When introducing a new food, you can follow the 3-day rule: try apple on its own first, then combine it with fruits such as pear or banana. At Maiyko we are gentle with your baby's delicate skin at mealtimes too — our GOTS-certified organic cotton bibs are made exactly for these moments.
