Planning a Weekly Complementary-Feeding Menu: A Balanced Start for Your Baby

Waking up each morning wondering “what should I cook today?” can be tiring. During the complementary-feeding stage, a small weekly plan can ease your load and help your baby meet balanced, varied flavours.

Why a Weekly Plan?

A small menu prepared in advance makes shopping easier and reduces last-minute rush. The plan is not a strict rule; it can flex with your baby’s appetite and your day. The goal is to bring different vegetables, fruit, grains and protein sources to the table in a balanced way through the week.

What Goes on a Balanced Plate?

A good baby meal usually brings together a vegetable or fruit, a grain and an iron-rich food. Red meat, lentils, egg yolk and dark leafy greens are lovely options for iron support. You can gradually move the texture from purée towards soft pieces according to your baby’s stage.

1 · Monday · Vegetable grain bowl

Add a little baby cereal to softly cooked pumpkin or carrot purée for a filling start to the day.

2 · Tuesday · Lentil purée

Cook iron-rich red lentils well and mash them with potato for a smooth, gentle meal.

3 · Wednesday · Fruity yoghurt

Stir plain full-fat yoghurt with mashed banana or pear for a light, refreshing snack.

4 · Thursday · Egg-yolk vegetables

Combine well-cooked egg yolk with steam-softened broccoli and offer it in small pieces.

5 · Friday · Chicken vegetable purée

Purée boiled chicken with carrot and potato to bring protein and vegetables onto one plate.

❓ How should I introduce new foods?

Offering each new food on its own and observing for 2-3 days makes it easier to notice any sensitivities. Try not to add another new food during that time.

❓ What if my baby refuses a meal?

Refusing is very common at this stage. Without pushing, you can offer it again a few days later; some flavours may take several tries to be accepted.
