A Weekly Complementary-Feeding Menu for Your Baby: A Balanced, Practical Planning Guide

The move to solids can feel both exciting and, at times, confusing. If “What should I cook this week, and how do I vary it?” sounds familiar, you are not alone. A small weekly plan can ease your mind and give your baby room to meet different tastes gently.

Why does a small plan help?

A simple menu prepared in advance reduces the decision load in busy moments. When you spread vegetables, fruits, grains and protein sources evenly across the week, variety grows naturally and you can easily notice repeated tastes. The plan is not a strict rule but a flexible guide; you can change the day according to your baby's appetite and cues.

A good weekly menu is made of different colours and textures: soft vegetable purées, fruit mashes, well-cooked grains and age-appropriate protein sources. Including iron-rich foods is often suggested at this stage. You can gradually thicken the texture as your baby develops and observe each new taste separately.

1

List the food groups

Write the core groups — vegetables, fruit, grains and protein — on paper; a simple chart is enough to spread them evenly across the week.

2

Add new tastes one at a time

Introduce each new food on its own, three days apart; this makes it easier to notice a possible sensitivity and to observe your baby's response calmly.

3

Adjust texture by age

Smooth purées at first, then lightly mashed and soft pieces as you go; set each step according to your baby's readiness.

4

Prepare practically

Preparing suitable portions in advance and storing them safely makes busy days easier; take care to serve each meal fresh and lukewarm.

❓ Do I have to follow the weekly plan exactly every day?

No. The plan is only a guide. Your baby's appetite, sleep and mood may change that day; flexing the menu is completely natural. What matters is a balanced variety spread across the whole week.

❓ What should I do if my baby refuses a food?

Without pressure, you can try again a few days later. New tastes sometimes need more than one encounter to be accepted. A calm, pressure-free mealtime supports this process.
